Gold prices jumped to a one-week high on Monday, as demand for the precious metal rose as a safe haven, and the dollar was pressured by renewed fears over North Korea's nuclear ambitions.
Spot gold rose 0.4 percent to $ 12799.99 an ounce, having earlier touched its highest level since September 29 at $ 1284.97 an ounce.
US gold futures for December delivery rose 0.6 percent to $ 1282.40 an ounce.
The dollar steadied against the yen after falling from its 12-week high last week as renewed focus on geopolitical tensions amid concerns that North Korea might be preparing for another test.
The spot price of silver rose 0.7 percent to $ 16.90 an ounce, after touching a two-week high of $ 16.99 an ounce earlier.
Platinum and palladium rose 0.5 percent to 917.50 and 924.65 dollars an ounce respectively.
