[ltr]An Iraqi official told Reuters on Monday that Iraq was preparing to turn most of Kirkuk's oil field production in the future to local refineries.[/ltr]
[ltr]Kirkuk's production stopped in mid-October after the federal government took control of the province.[/ltr]
[ltr]"The transfer of Kirkuk crude to the Dora refinery in Baghdad and the Baiji refinery north of the capital will help provide more oil for export from the south," the official said.[/ltr]
[ltr]"Some Kirkuk crude will be transported in the near future by trucks to the Kermanshah refinery at a rate of 30,000 barrels a day," the official said on condition of anonymity.[/ltr]
[ltr]He said last week that crude flows through the pipeline amounted to about 270 thousand barrels per day, and before the crisis between Baghdad and Erbil, the volume of flows amounted to 600 thousand barrels per day, equivalent to about 17 percent of Iraq's total exports.[/ltr]
[ltr]Iraq, the second largest producer of crude in OPEC after Saudi Arabia, exports most of its crude output from the south.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Iraqi official said that the Kurds refused to hand over the Iraqi authorities Khormala reservoir, which is part of the geological formation of the Kirkuk oil basin, but it is located geographically within the territory of the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq.[/ltr]
[ltr]He added that the government wants to be Khormala under the control of the State Oil Company managed by the State of Kirkuk as well as other Kirkuk.[/ltr]
