WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Doug Jones won a major victory over his Republican rival in the Alabama Senate election, a setback for President Donald Trump, whose candidate has not been able to overcome charges of sexual harassment.
"In 92 percent of polling stations, former Attorney General Jones won 49.8 percent of the votes, compared with 48.8 percent for his Republican rival Roy Moore, who was strongly supported by Trump, Sky News reported in a news report.
The election round was the most competitive in 2017, and the result was a severe blow to Tramp deep in the conservative southern states, giving the Senate seat in Alabama to opposition Democrats for the first time in a quarter of a century. Ending / 25 z
