[rtl]Washington hands over Jordan Black Hawk helicopters[/rtl]
Zarqa - The United States handed over two Black Hawk helicopters to Jordan on Sunday, bringing the total number of helicopters provided by Washington to the kingdom since last year to 12.
"The Jordanian armed forces officially received on Sunday the final shipment of Black Hawk helicopters from the United States, bringing the total number received by the armed forces to 12 helicopters over the past nine months," the US embassy in Amman said in a statement, .
"The helicopters will reinforce the Jordanian armed forces, its rapid reaction force and the security of Jordan," the statement said.
The two helicopters were delivered at a ceremony attended by Prince Faisal bin Al Hussein, Charge d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Amman, Henry Wooster and General Joseph Fotill, commander of the US Central Command, representing the United States.
During the ceremony, an air show was presented with Black Hawk helicopters. The Jordanian Royal Air Force and the Rapid Response Force (RRC) launched a live fire and a counter-attack showing the capabilities of Black Hawk helicopters.
"The United States and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have a historic and lasting relationship based on common values and common interests," said Wooster.
"Our military partnership reflects our common objectives for a secure and stable region," he said, adding that "today's celebration marks the beginning of a new capability for the Royal Jordanian Air Force in the form of a remarkable fleet of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters."
According to the embassy statement, "The United States provided the first batch of helicopters in March 2017 and the final batch in December 2017, in an unprecedented delivery of this number of aircraft."
"As evidence of the strong strategic partnership between the United States and Jordan, the US Congress allocated $ 470 million in 2017 to the Jordanian Armed Forces and Royal Air Force forces, including training for pilots, crew, maintenance technicians as well as spare parts and ground equipment , Weapons, ammunition and shelter for Black Hawk helicopters. "
"The United States is committed to supporting the efforts of the Jordanian armed forces to protect the borders of Jordan, combat terrorism, assist in civil defense operations and defeat a supporter through the international coalition," he said, referring to the organization of the Islamic state.
The US aid program to Jordan, one of Washington's key allies in the Middle East, is one of the largest US aid programs in the world.
The Jordanian Minister of Planning Imad Fakhouri said on December 3 that "the total (non-military) economic assistance to the Kingdom of the United States of America for the year 2017 amounted to about 812 million dollars."
