Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has long dreamed of a new president with sweeping new powers over a country he dominated and reshaped during his 15-year rule.
With the start of his executive presidency, which he fought hard to ensure, Erdogan will also appoint a government with fewer ministers, who he says will push for growth to make Turkey one of the world's largest economies.
Erdogan narrowly won a referendum last year to replace Turkey's parliamentary system with a system with broad powers, followed by an elusive victory last month in an election for the new post.
These changes have been the biggest change to the regime since the founding of the modern Turkish Republic on the ruins of the Ottoman Empire almost a century ago. Erdogan says it is necessary to boost Turkey's economic growth and ensure its security.
"Turkey is entering a new era with the president's swearing-in ceremony on Monday," Erdogan said at a meeting of his AK Party.
"We will be faster and achieve stronger results in the power given to us by the new presidential system," he said.
Opponents say the new powers are an authoritarian regime, accusing Erdogan of undermining secular institutions created by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey, and alienating them more from Western values on democracy and freedom of expression.
Erdogan will be sworn in at 4 pm (1300 GMT) before attending a ceremony two hours later at the huge presidential palace he has built in the capital.
Erdogan said he would announce the cabinet reshuffle on Monday night, vowing to appoint ministers from outside the parliament and narrowing his ministerial team from more than 20 ministers to 16 ministers.
Under these changes, the post of prime minister will be abolished. Erdogan will choose his own government, organize the ministries and dismiss government officials, all without the approval of parliament.
