The government of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi was surprised by the decision to close the US consulate, the daily Al-Hayat reported on Sunday, indicating that it had not been consulted in advance about the decision.

"The government of Haider al-Abadi was surprised by the American decision and was not consulted in advance regarding the closure of the consulate," the newspaper said in a report.

He added that "meetings yesterday, with officials of the US Embassy in Baghdad, to discuss the reasons for the decision and seek to reopen the consulate."

The MP from the province of Basra, the victory of al-Moussawi said in a previous statement to the (information), the decision of the United States to withdraw the staff of its consulate in the province, "US blackmail," noting that the US plots against Iraq will not stop. Athee / 25
