saw MP stream wisdom Furat al - Tamimi , Tuesday, that the new agricultural plan will make Iraq lose 40% of the domestic product and raise the unemployment rate and contribute to raising the amount of import and drain hard currency.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with Alsumaria News that "the new agricultural plan announced by the Ministry of Agriculture through reducing the cultivated areas due to water scarcity will cause the loss of Iraq's domestic product by 35-40%," noting that "wheat crop will decrease production By 50%, which makes it insufficient to fill the shortage ration card vocabulary and this means the import and depletion of hard currency.
Al-Tamimi added that "the plan will also have effects on the labor force where the unemployment rate will increase significantly leading to increased demand for jobs and migration from the countryside to the city," pointing out that "the reduction will negatively affect the amount of production of rice and barley in addition to a number of Local crops and vegetables and increases the dependence on the importer. "
On Thursday (October 4, 2018), the Ministry of Agriculture announced the reduction of 55% of the cultivated area for the winter season.
