The office of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said on Wednesday that the latter met with the deputies of the province of Basra and its local government, while revealing a source responsible for what will be included in the meeting, pointing out that there is a hint of the return of demonstrations in the province.
"Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi held a meeting today with the deputies of the province of Basra and its governor and the head of the provincial council and the commander of operations and police," Abdul Mahdi's office said in a statement.

For his part, an official source revealed that "the visual delegation holds the demands of the Prime Minister must be implemented and all services related to water, electricity and agricultural land and the high incidence of poverty and unemployment in the province."

The official, who declined to be named, stressed that "all the promises of the previous government did not materialize, Basra did not get any jobs or allocations, and did not start any service or reconstruction services," adding that "the delegation will demand a timetable, To the new prime minister. "
He added that "Basra looms by the return of demonstrations in the event that did not get what changes the reality of service."
For his part, said a coordination member of the popular demonstrations in the province Majed al-Ali, "The popular boiling in Basra began again," explaining that "the people of the province are very upset not to implement the promises launched by the government."
It is noteworthy that the province of Basra witnessed months of peaceful demonstrations and sit-ins demanding the improvement of services and the fight against corruption and the provision of employment opportunities, followed by a wave of violent protests, including the burning of offices of political parties and movements and the headquarters of government institutions, including the Office of the province and the Directorate of Municipalities, after which the protests gradually subsided.
