The Vatican's foreign minister, Cardinal Pietro Barrolin, said current circumstances did not allow Pope Francis to visit Iraq.
"Such a visit requires minimal conditions and is not available now," said the Vatican's foreign minister who recently visited Iraq in an interview with the Italian Catholic TV TV 2000.
"The problem of terrorism has not been solved," Cardinal Barrolin said, adding that during his visit he had the impression the Baghdad authorities had asserted that "the roots of this phenomenon still exist."
But Cardinal Barrolin confirmed the Pope's desire to go to Iraq. "This will certainly raise the morale of Iraqis to the difficulties they still have to face," he told the Vatican newspaper.
