[rtl]"President Donald Trump is thinking of a military option to resolve the situation in Venezuela," said Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.[/rtl]

[rtl]"What do you think of the use of force in Venezuela?" Said Graham, who is a hawk. I told you to be careful, this can be a problem. "I'm surprised, you want to invade everywhere."[/rtl]

[rtl]"I do not want to invade everywhere. I want to use the army only when our national security interests are in danger," said Trump.[/rtl]

[rtl]Lindsay Graham commented that "Trump was aggressively mobilized toward Venezuela," while the US president did not rule out any option to move the United States against Venezuela.[/rtl]

[rtl]Despite all this, the US news portal pointed out that there are currently no indications that the US military is planning to invade Venezuelan territory.[/rtl]

[rtl]The government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro will remain under diplomatic and economic pressure, and the tougher sanctions in the coming weeks are expected to touch on Maduro's "foreign oil and financial assets", which will be handed over to the Venezuelan opposition, administration sources said.[/rtl]

[size=32]UN official: America is imposing its conditions on the United Nations and "twisting the arms" of States[/size]

[rtl]In an interview with Britain's Independent newspaper, Zayas said US sanctions were "lethal", pointing out that the poorest segments of the population suffer more than others and die without food or medicine.[/rtl]

[rtl]De Zayas was the first UN representative to visit Venezuela in the last 21 years and arrived in Latin America by the end of 2017, even before the current crisis began.[/rtl]

[rtl]While there, he spoke not only with representatives of the Venezuelan government, but also with non-governmental organizations operating in the country, with the opposition, scientists, activists, church representatives, businesses and local UN offices.[/rtl]

[rtl]After his trip to Venezuela, he presented his detailed report to the United Nations, suggesting that the International Criminal Court investigate whether such sanctions constituted a crime against humanity.[/rtl]

[rtl]In his view, US sanctions are "illegal and illegitimate" because they are imposed without the consent and will of the United Nations.[/rtl]

[rtl]The former UN official stressed that "modern economic sanctions and the siege it represents, is similar to the siege of cities in the Middle Ages."[/rtl]

[rtl]However, as de Zayas noted, the United Nations did not hear his report and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights refused to meet with him at all.[/rtl]

[rtl]The former judge believes that the reason for this is that his objective findings contradict the current US position to change order in Venezuela, so the United Nations is only interested in those reports critical of the regime and calling for its overthrow.[/rtl]

[rtl]In addition, de Zayas said that the main role in this process is played by the United States, which is trying to overthrow President Nicholas Maduro with the help of sanctions.[/rtl]

[rtl]According to him, the United States is "twisting the arms of States" in the United Nations, forcing them to vote according to their interests and policies, by threatening them with economic consequences.[/rtl]

[rtl]He explains that the United States actually invested a lot of money in Venezuela, but it lost control of Venezuelan industry after nationalization, and now is trying to recover everything.[/rtl]

[rtl]"I feel that if Venezuela did not have significant natural resources, no one would care about Chavez, Maduro or anyone else in this country," he said.[/rtl]

[rtl]In conclusion, the former United Nations rapporteur called on the international community to enter into dialogue with Venezuela to improve the situation rather than exert pressure on it through sanctions and attempt to overthrow its legitimate authority. He also criticized the United States and Britain for interfering in the internal affairs of another country.[/rtl]

[rtl]"Only Venezuelans can decide, not the United States or the United Kingdom. We do not want to repeat the coup of the dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1973," he said. "Then the problems can be resolved through justice and reason."[/rtl]
