{International: Al Furat News} Iraq announced that it was not participating in the "Peace for Prosperity" workshop held in Bahrain late this month at a US invitation, stressing its adherence to its steadfast stance on the Palestinian cause.
"Iraq will not participate in the Bahrain conference due to its steadfast position on the Palestinian issue, which is the right of the Palestinian people to establish their unified state with Jerusalem as its capital, and defend the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad al-Sahaf said in a press statement.
"This issue is central to our public and political consciousness and our speech as an Iraqi foreign ministry," he added.
Washington and Manama announced in a joint statement last month that an economic workshop was to be held in Manama on June 25-26 to encourage investment in the Palestinian territories, which observers saw as a first step in the implementation of the US Middle East peace plan known as the "Century Deal".
The White House said the conference was "a pivotal opportunity for a meeting between the government, civil society and business leaders to exchange ideas, discuss strategies and mobilize support from potential economic investments that could be achieved through a peace agreement."
In a joint statement, Bahrain will host a workshop to encourage investment in the Palestinian territories, with the participation of political officials and businessmen, on 25 and 26 June 2019.
In a statement, the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Participation in the economic workshop to be held in Bahrain under American auspices.
"The goal pursued by the American administration from such a conference is to start implementing the deal of the century on its economic side after it has taken great strides in implementing the deal in its political side through a number of decisions, measures and steps that would perpetuate the occupation and erase the rights of the Palestinian national people Legitimate and inalienable rights "
