BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Nuri al-Maliki won the majority of votes as secretary-general of the Dawa party, the leader of the Islamic Dawa Party Hassan al-Sunaid said on Saturday. "Al-Maliki received 342 votes in the presence of 350 callers to the General Secretariat of the Dawa Party," al-Sunaid said in a statement. "This is closer to consensus." He added that "the conference was held for the second day and full members of America, Canada, Europe, Asia and some Arab countries, Iran and Iraq, as well as in Kurdistan," noting that "the program included discussing the reports of the committees and the election of the Secretary-General." He pointed out that "the conference is still discussing the reports of the organizational committees, political and intellectual services and support citizens and others," explaining that "was elected Secretary General of the Dawa Party, Mr. Nuri Kamal al-Maliki unanimously and in a democratic atmosphere and after discussion with preachers and former officials in the call.
