    Electronic hacking. Archival - expressive
(Reuters) - Microsoft said on Friday that an Iranian-linked cyber-infiltration group had tried to infiltrate email accounts belonging to a US presidential campaign team, government officials and journalists between August and September[/size]
Tom Burt, vice president in charge of security and user trust, said in a statement that the company's cybersecurity center monitored over a month a group that made more than 2,700 attempts to reveal e-mail accounts belonging to Microsoft users and then "attacked (241) of those accounts."
Bert believes the group "comes from Iran and is linked to the Iranian government."
"The target accounts are linked to a US presidential campaign team, current and former government officials, journalists working to cover international political relations and well-known Iranians living outside their country," Burt said.
As a result, only four accounts have been breached, none of which is linked to the presidential campaign team or the government, according to the US group.
The New York Times quoted "informed" sources as saying the campaign was the campaign of US President Donald Trump.
This is also confirmed by Reuters, which quoted informed sources that the cyber-infiltration group apparently linked to the Iranian government tried to break through the campaign for re-election of the US president, but did not succeed.
In addition to Iran, pirates from Russia and North Korea have begun targeting organizations that work with presidential candidates, according to security researchers and intelligence officials.
Given the timing of the Iranian campaign in August and September, it was after the Trump administration announced additional sanctions against Tehran.
Officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency have recently expressed concerns that cyber attacks could come from Iran.

    Penetrating election campaigns in countries

LONDON (Reuters) - A breakthrough group apparently linked to the Iranian government has carried out a cyberattack against a presidential campaign in the United States, Microsoft said on Friday.
Microsoft has seen "significant" online activity for the group, which also targeted current and former government officials and journalists covering global politics, as well as prominent Iranians living outside Iran, the company said in a blog post.
The hacking group, named by Microsoft as "phosphorus", made 30 days between August and September, making more than 2,700 attempts to identify e-mail accounts belonging to specific clients, and then attacked 241 of them.
The breakthrough has become a concern for governments, especially as US intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia intervened in the 2016 presidential election to help then-Republican candidate Donald Trump to become president.
Microsoft has been tracking Phosphorus since 2013 and said in March it had received a court order to control the 99 sites the group uses to carry out attacks.
Phosphorus is also known as APT 35, Garming Keaten and Ajax Security, according to Microsoft.
