    , Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi received a phone call from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
    Pompeo congratulated on the occasion of the formation of the new government and won the confidence of the House of Representatives, stressing his country's keenness to stand with the Iraqi government to overcome the effects of the economic crisis, and looking forward to a strategic dialogue between the two countries.
    Al-Kazemi thanked the US Secretary of State for the congratulations, and wished that the relations between the two countries would witness further development.
    "It is wonderful to speak today with the new Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi. Now comes the urgent and hard work to implement the reforms that the Iraqi people have demanded. I have pledged to help him implement this for the Iraqi people," Pompeo said in a tweet after a phone call to Al-Kazemi.
    And US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told new Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi that the United States would give Iraq a 120-day exception to continue importing electricity from Iran to help the new government succeed.
    "In support of the new government, the United States will press ahead with granting a 120-day exception to import electricity as an expression of our desire to help create the conditions for success," the State Department said in a statement regarding a communication between Pompeo and Al-Kazemi.
    Washington has repeatedly extended the waiver that allows Baghdad to use the Iranian energy supplies necessary for its electricity grid for 90 or 120 days.
    But it extended the waiver last month for only 30 days while Baghdad was having trouble forming a new government. M hn

    Shafak News / US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday informed Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi of Washington's desire to have a strategic dialogue with Baghdad.
    A statement by Al-Kazemi’s office said that the latter received a phone call from Pompeo, who congratulated on the occasion of the formation of the new government and won the confidence of the House of Representatives.
    The statement quoted Pompeo as reiterating his country's "keenness to stand with the Iraqi government to overcome the effects of the economic crisis, and to aspire to conduct a strategic dialogue between the two countries."
    For his part, Al-Kazemi thanked the US Secretary of State for the congratulations, and wished that the relations between the two countries would witness further development.
    Baghdad and Washington are expected to hold talks on the nature of relations between the two countries and the future of American forces in the country.
