    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

Today, Monday, the Parliamentary Services and Reconstruction Committee revealed the existence of large corruption files in the residential investment sector, and while it indicated a parliamentary movement to include certain segments of lands, it confirmed the preparation of a draft law for the ownership of the lands of transgressors in exchange for money.
The head of the committee, MP Walid Sahlani, said that "housing complex projects are a positive step to solve the housing crisis," noting that "the housing problem has passed for two decades, despite the existence of projects to build residential complexes, but it is very limited."
He added that "the investment sector did not take into account the real problem of housing in the past and allowed the granting of investment opportunities in strategic places in Baghdad at high amounts," noting that "there are great indications of the existence of large corruption files in this sector, as the committee made a great effort to open this file and refer it." Officials involved in corruption to integrity.
He emphasized, "There are 18 housing projects affiliated with the Ministry of Housing, most of which are handicapped projects that were referred by the ministry in a lame manner, neither through contracting nor through investment," noting that "there are parties involved in this issue."
He continued, "This file has been opened, and the defect will be diagnosed and those involved will be referred to integrity, explaining that" the housing policy in the country was not clear-cut, as Iraq still needs to build more than 3 million housing units.
Sahlani stated that “the committee has repeatedly requested sectoral executive bodies such as the Ministry of Municipalities and the Prime Minister to distribute serviced lands to all citizens,” indicating that “there is a possibility to include certain segments of the lands and to be served by a developer approved by those departments and a certain amount is added to the amount that is sold For the citizen ”.
On the issue of slums, Sahlani stressed that "there are more than 6 million Iraqi citizens living in slums, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Planning," indicating that "dealing with this issue requires legislation."
He pointed out that "the law dealing with abuses has not yet seen light in all parliamentary sessions, as it allows the ownership of lands for transgressors within the basic design of cities, and there is also a decision that gives priority to land ownership in exchange for an amount of money," explaining that "a draft of this law has been prepared. It is hoped that it will be presented in the coming sessions of the House of Representatives.
