     Baghdad: Muhannad Abd al-Wahhab

The Labor, Social Affairs, Migration and Displaced Committee announced that there are nearly one million foreign workers competing with local workers for job opportunities.
Committee member Fadel Al-Fatlawi said: "The committee is ready to implement the Social Security and Retirement Law, which is one of the biggest achievements for legalization and control of the entry of foreign labor and Iraqi labor competition in job opportunities."
He added, that a high percentage of those foreign workers entered Iraq illegally and in violation of the law through companies or smuggling in certain ways.
And he indicated that "the priority of job opportunities should be for the son of the country, and the government should work to legalize this foreign labor and allocate job opportunities for Iraqi workers, calling on the government to control the border crossings and airports."
He added that "providing job opportunities for Iraqi workers will contribute to reducing and ending unemployment, which will reduce the poverty rate and contribute to the recovery of the local market and the high demand for local production, which in turn contributes to the legalization of the import process, in addition to refining and developing local expertise."
Al-Fatlawi pointed out that "the activity of the Ministry of Interior is clear in controlling foreign workers entering illegally or with expired residency, deporting them, and preventing them from being provided with residency again, in order to legalize them and give greater opportunities to local employment."
