    The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has completed the administrative and financial procedures for the file of salinity treatment and the green belt in the Euphrates basin areas.
    On Sunday, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Al-Ghazi, said while presiding over the fourth meeting of the Diwaniyah Order Committee (73) for the year 2021; To finalize the launch of the implementation phase, and transfer the committee’s work from the framework of the study to the framework of supervision and follow-up for the implementing agencies: The committee concerned with finding solutions; To address the salinity of the Euphrates River and the Green Belt in the regions of the middle Euphrates from Muthanna Governorate to Dhi Qar Governorate, the administrative and financial procedures for the salinity treatment file in the Euphrates Basin and Green Belt regions have been completed; To launch the next phase and start implementing the work of the sectoral authorities on the ground, after approving the financial allocations for the project.
    Al-Ghazi added that getting rid of the high levels of salinity in the Euphrates basin areas is an absolute necessity, as it serves a large segment of the people of the central and southern governorates, who number more than eight million people, by providing drinking water, its importance in achieving development in the agricultural fields, and the positive effects that It will produce it in the employment of labor in those areas.
    The committee also examined the Ministry of Planning’s procedures regarding the inclusion of financial allocations for the aforementioned project, as well as the possibility of converting part of the lands adjacent to the international road into agricultural lands as part of the requirements to combat desertification and stabilize sand dunes within the Green Belt project.
