A member of the Iranian Parliament's Energy Committee, Ali Reza Warnaseri, called on the Iraqi authorities to transfer the ownership of some oil wells to Tehran, as a fine to be paid for the losses of the Iran-Iraq war.
And the "Ekhtebiya" website quoted Warnaciri as saying that "Iraq should pay a war fine of 1100 billion dollars," noting that "Iran did not ask for the amount in the past to establish good-neighborly relations after the fall of Saddam."
He added, "Kuwait obtained a fine for the Iraqi invasion of its lands by obtaining a share of Iraqi oil sales, and based on this experience, Iraq could transfer the ownership of a number of its oil wells to Iran."
He pointed out that "the United Nations, in its Resolution No. 598, recognized Iraq's responsibility for starting the war, and despite the lack of a mechanism in this resolution regarding paying the war fine, the Iranian government must follow up on this file."
