The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Friday, that it has been following the developments of the Iraqi immigrant file since mid-June 2021.
The Ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahaf, said in a statement that Mawazine News received a copy of it, that "Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein had extensive contacts with his counterparts in The European Union and received a number of them in Baghdad, in order to achieve a national response to provide security and safety for Iraqi migrants and cut the way for human smuggling and human trafficking networks, which were involved in these risks.
The statement added, "The ministry instructed the Iraqi embassies in Moscow and Warsaw to dispatch diplomatic teams to the whereabouts of the migrants, provide them with the necessary support, and coordinate with the authorities in Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland."
He added, "The ministry was keen to coordinate urgently with national authorities and take the initiative with the recent escalation of immigration, explaining that it has so far succeeded in returning immigrants within exceptional evacuation flights and through efforts coordinated by the ministry with Iraqi Airways, and it was among the first (431) and (176) flights. ), the third (435) and the fourth will be this Friday evening (431), and the fifth tomorrow, and it will be less (430), so that the total of voluntary returnees (1894).”
