Shafaq News/ A source familiar with the course of the meeting, which brought together, today, Monday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Iraqi Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi with the leader of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr in Al-Hanana area in Najaf governorate, described what happened as "an attempt by the partners to resolve the dispute between Al-Sadr and the coordination framework." .
The source told Shafaq News Agency, "The meeting took place to reunite the Shiite house," noting that "it is a real initiative to prove the goodwill of the mediating partners to all that they are seeking to restore the Shiite house again and ally with them all."
The source added that "the mediating partners (Barzani, Al-Halbousi and Al-Khanjar) made a number of proposals to resolve the dispute between the Shiite parties, but the leader of the Sadrist movement remained insistent on his demands to exclude the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, and welcome all other Shiite forces."
The source explained, "Al-Sadr expressed his willingness to dialogue with the Shiite parties without al-Maliki, and to merge with them to form the largest Shiite alliance," noting that "the initiative now remains in the arena of the coordination framework."
And the source indicated, "The partners' attempt to smooth the atmosphere among the Shiite forces dropped all accusations against them about encouraging Al-Sadr to exclude Shiite forces, or that they are following an external strategic plan to weaken the Shiite component and withdraw power from it."
Following the end of his meeting, today in Najaf, with the presidents of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani and the Iraqi parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, as well as the leader of the Sovereignty Alliance Khamis al-Khanjar, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, confirmed his quest to form a national majority government.
Earlier, Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani expressed his hope that Barzani and Al-Halbousi's meeting with Al-Sadr in Najaf would yield "positive results."
