Shafaq News/ The activities of the joint Iraqi-Syrian bilateral meeting on launching the ninth edition of the International Hydrological Program concluded in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources stated, in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, that the conference was chaired by Minister Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, Syrian Minister of Water Resources Tammam Raad, and attended by the technical agent authorized with the powers of the Iraqi Minister of Environment Jassem Abdul Aziz Al-Falahi, and the Iraqi charge d'affaires in Damascus Yassin Sharif. Emphasizing during the closing speeches delivered by the ministers the necessity of continuing joint action to reach the desired results, joint coordination and unification of positions to obtain the two countries’ water rights in light of the lack of water revenues and climate changes in a manner that meets the two countries’ water requirements and ensures the well-being of their peoples.
The meeting concluded with the signing of joint minutes between the two sides, the most important of which included the implementation of integrated management of water resources, achieving sustainable development goals, harnessing technology, science and research, and confronting the extreme effects of climate.
The meeting agreed that the second meeting of the program will be held in the capital, Baghdad, in the near future, according to the statement.
