In his speech at the conference on the impact of climate change and water crises... Al-Nouri: Reviving the marshes is a national, humanitarian and international responsibility

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Migration and Displacement, Dr. Karim Al-Nouri, participated in the international conference held in Erbil under the title (The impact of climate change and water crises on demographic transformations and internal and external migration), with the participation of the Center for Environmental Studies at the University of Erbil, the Bahr Al-Ulum Dialogue Forum, and the French Center for Research in Iraq.
Al-Nouri said in his speech during the conference that: “Climate changes and water crises that Iraq has experienced are pushing citizens from these places to flee, and their displacement is called ((climate migration)) and this migration passes through all countries of the world,” indicating that “the concept of climate migration appeared after Climate changes and natural phenomena have resulted in the displacement and movement of people from their original places to other areas where there is a suitable climate for living, whether inside or outside their countries.”
Mr. Al-Wakeel continued, “The concept of climate migration is expressed in a number of terms, including environmental asylum and environmental migration, which means that residents are forced to leave their original homeland due to climate changes in their environment. It generally expresses population migration (internal or external migration) due to climate changes in their regions, and it is in two directions, One is accompanied by gradual damage, such as the drying up of rivers, and the other causes immediate damage, such as earthquakes and floods.”
Al-Nouri called on the concerned authorities to take a national and international stand to save the marshes from drought.
