Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Minister of Communications, Arkan Shihab Al-Shaibani confirmed, on Tuesday, that he had submitted a proposal to the Ministerial Committee for Economy to cancel the tax imposed on mobile phone and Internet users, considering that it is no longer justified.
Al-Shaibani told Shafaq News Agency, "I raised the proposal to cancel the 20% tax on mobile phone and internet companies, because the legislation of this tax law was in 2014, when the Iraqi state was in a financial crisis and facing ISIS."
He added that "there is also another reason, which is that the budget law is currently suspended and it is not possible to collect from the citizen without a law, and the Iraqi citizen is currently paying 20% on the price of the card without the law."
He continued, "We have addressed the Office of Financial Supervision and the Council of Ministers to raise and cancel this tax, and we expect that the next government will cancel it."
And last Saturday, the head of the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee, Zahra Al-Bajari, confirmed to Shafak News Agency her intention to cancel the mobile phone recharge card tax in the federal budget for the year 2023.
She said that "in the previous budgets, there was a paragraph to maximize the state's resources, by deducting an additional amount from the packing card companies, but the Finance Committee and the Executive Government did not notice at the time that this value was added to the value of the card itself, and therefore the citizen pays that value, not the company."
And included in the 2015 Budget Law No. 2 of 2015 what was included in Article 33 / A, which stipulates: Imposing a sales tax on mobile phone and internet recharge cards at 20% of the value of the cards throughout Iraq, as part of a set of measures to legalize expenses and increase revenues after low prices Oil in global markets and the fight against ISIS at the time.

The current Minister of Communications: The next government will cancel the mobile balance tax
