Prime Minister Mohamed Shia Al-Sudani announced the start of work on the Al-Shinafiyah refinery expansion project in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, stressing the government's determination to develop the oil sector and complete projects that meet the citizens' need for fuel.
Al-Sudani mentioned during his field tour to the governorate that "designs have been put in place for the expansion of the Shinafiyah refinery, which will work to increase the production capacity of the refinery from 20,000 barrels per day to 90,000 barrels per day, in addition to a refining unit with a capacity of 70,000 barrels per day." That production be compatible with environmental requirements.
He explained that "this increase will contribute to reducing the import of gasoline and gas oil, and the provision of surplus quantities of liquid gas and fuel oil products, which have a large economic return. The project will also provide up to 3,000 job opportunities to employ local labor."
The statement indicated that "the ceremony of starting work to expand the project was attended by the Governor of Diwaniyah and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refineries Affairs."
