Baghdad / bright news
A local official confirmed that proceeding with the construction of the suspended train in Baghdad is awaiting financial allocations, indicating that the project is under study in order to refer it to a company for implementation according to the official contexts.
The director of the suspended train project in Baghdad, Jabbar Aliwi, said, in an interview with (Al-Mada), that "the Railways Directorate in the Ministry of Transport has completed its procedures related to the implementation of the suspended railway project and has sent all requirements for implementation."
Aliwi added, "The process of implementing the project depends on approving the federal budget after referring it to companies and competing to sign the contract, and this matter will not take much time."
He pointed out, "The initial designs that we have indicate that the Baghdad Governorate started the initial designs since 2012 and completed them in 2018, and then they reached the Ministry of Transport in 2020."
Aliwi stressed, “The suspended train project is a suspension bridge on which the train runs, and it extends from Al-Shaab area and ends in Al-Alawi; And another branch heads towards Al-Kadhimiya to Abdul Mohsen Al-Kazemi Square, and the train is without a driver and accommodates 30,000 passengers.”
He noted, "The cost of the project is about two and a half billion dollars, which can be reduced after entering the competition."
Aliwi went on to say, "The issue is still under discussion, and no company has been settled until now, but we will refer the project according to the controls approved by the Ministries of Transport and Planning."
For his part, a member of the Parliamentary Services Committee, Mahma Khalil, stated, “The establishment of the suspended train is a dream for all the people of the capital. As for the reason for its disruption, it has many reasons, including routine and the lack of seriousness of some executive authorities.”
Khalil stressed, “the need to provide financial allocations for the project,” and talked about the efforts of “many solid companies to obtain a license to implement it.”
He believed, "The project is being subjected to political blackmail in order to finish it off, with attempts aimed at stopping it for personal purposes."
