On Sunday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani issued directives regarding the "electronic permit and networking" project for the management of border crossings.
A statement by Al-Sudani's office stated, "The last meeting today was devoted to following up on the electronic permit and networking project. The team in charge of implementation attended a meeting that discussed the requirements for completing the project."
Al-Sudani directed, according to the statement, the concerned authorities to "overcome obstacles and provide all facilities for its success, including financial or logistical support."
Al-Sudani said, "The importance of the project is related to the fact that it is linked to the economy of Iraq as a whole," stressing "the need to adapt citizens and businessmen to follow the correct procedures, which prevent bribery, extortion, and waste of public money."
He also stressed the need for "the process of adopting this system to be accompanied by a media campaign to raise awareness of its use and the benefits that will be realized from it later."
Al-Sudani's office stated, "The system will be managed by local cadres, and it will secure the work of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] , issue electronic declarations, and unify customs procedures."
He pointed out, "This project establishes an electronic system that bypasses human errors, prevents manipulation and forgery, and limits money laundering and customs and tax evasion. It has already been tested in three border crossings, and the experiment will be circulated to all crossings within three months."
The system converts procedures to an electronic track instead of paper transactions, and links government agencies that support customs work, such as the ministries of commerce, health, transport, agriculture, planning, the central bank, and taxes, and enables them to exchange data with "easiness and safety," according to the statement.
