Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs called, on Tuesday, for international cooperation to recover smuggled Iraqi antiquities and stop illegal trade in them.
In a statement received by Shafaq News agency, the ministry said, "Restoring any part of the evidence of our rich Iraqi history to where it belongs is a source of great pride and happiness for all Iraqis. We hope that the period spent by the recently recovered Iraqi artifacts, which exceeded ninety years, has served Scientific and cognitive research in the great cultural heritage of our antiquities by specialists.

She added, "We look forward to the cooperation of all countries, institutions and international organizations with the Iraqi efforts to recover every piece of antiquity that was taken out of Iraq illegally, and to stop illegal trade in it. At different times, and we will spare no effort to pursue any piece around the world, because it is part of the Iraqi people's heritage and cultural wealth, and its honorable civilizational product.
The Ministry expressed appreciation for the position of the British government and the British Museum on joint work in the cultural and archaeological fields, and we also appreciate the positive role in helping to recover a large number of artifacts during the previous years.
On Friday, the fifth of May, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, received 6,000 artifacts that were borrowed from the British Museum for study purposes since 1923, to be returned to the capital, Baghdad, a century later.
