Shafaq News/ The Director General of Dams in the Kurdistan Region, Rahman Khani, revealed on Saturday the rise in water levels in major dams in the region.
Khani said, in a statement to Shafaq News Agency, "Compared to last year, the water level in the dams has risen this year at clear rates, especially in the Dokan and Darbandikhan dams."
He added, "According to the plan, we can provide the necessary amount of water to citizens this year," noting that "increasing the water level in the Dokan and Darbandikhan dams will also reflect positively on the provision of water to the provinces of Diyala and Kirkuk, in addition to organizing and a slight increase in the amount of electricity, noting that the quantities produced by the dams "Limited."
Regarding the reasons for the increase in storage, Rahman emphasized that “the increase in the amount of rain this year compared to last year caused an increase in the dams’ water reserves in Kurdistan.”
In turn, the director of the Dokan Dam, Kocher Jaman, revealed in a statement to Shafaq News Agency that “the amount of increase this year compared to last year reaches about 5 meters at this same time,” noting that “the percentage of storage in the dam reaches about 57%.”
He pointed out, "We expect that there will be no problem in water preparation this year due to the increase in rainfall."
Saman Ismail, director of the Darbandikhan Dam, said in an interview received by Shafaq News Agency, “Due to the heavy rains that fell on the Kurdistan Region this year, compared to last year, we absorbed 620 million cubic meters of water.”
He added, "An average of 70 to 90 million cubic meters of water are released daily to the southern regions of Iraq, according to their needs, while the total amount of water released daily to other parts of Iraq can be used to generate electricity."
