Al-Kazemi stresses Iraq's right to recover all its looted antiquities
Shafaq News/ Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi stressed on Sunday Iraq's right to recover all its looted and smuggled antiquities before and after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in 2003 at the hands of the forces of the United States of America and its allies.
This came during the inauguration of the Iraqi National Museum today after its rehabilitation and maintenance work on its halls, which coincided with the National Day of Tolerance and the one-year anniversary of the historic visit of His Holiness Pope Francis to Iraq and his historic meeting with the supreme reference Ali al-Sistani.
A statement issued by Al-Kazemi's media office stated that the latter also inaugurated the exhibition of Iraqi antiquities recovered from five countries: the United States of America, the Netherlands, Japan, Italy, and Lebanon.
He urged the Prime Minister to continue recovering Iraqi antiquities through diplomatic coordination with countries, stressing Iraq's right to recover all Iraqi antiquities that were smuggled or stolen before and after 2003.
He stressed the government's unlimited support for all procedures for the recovery process, according to the statement.
During the year 2021, Iraq recovered 17,000 artifacts and the Gilgamesh dream tablets from the United States of America.
