    Economy News - Baghdad
Today, Sunday, the Ministry of Environment announced legal measures against violating factories, up to a fine and closure, while setting the conditions for establishing industrial projects.
Director of the Department of Monitoring and Evaluation of Industrial and Service Activities in the Ministry, Jalil Hussein Salman, said, “Iron and steel factories, carbon oxides, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and others, release gases into the atmosphere, which affect the environment on the one hand, in addition to the role of the greenhouse gases emitted and their impact on the issue of climate change.” On the other hand, he indicated that “the Ministry’s production companies and factories contribute to influencing the quality of the surrounding air through the gaseous and particulate emissions they produce.”
Salman added: “The Ministry of Environment stipulated that projects be established within specific locational parameters that ensure that areas and population centers are not affected, and it also stipulated the provision of means of controlling gaseous and particulate emissions, before granting environmental approval for these projects.”
He continued: "The Ministry will monitor the performance of all activities, after completing their establishment and carrying out work, and in the event that any violation of environmental legislation is diagnosed, appropriate legal measures will be taken, represented by issuing a warning, then a financial fine if the violation is not removed, and the procedures lead to temporary closure."
