A number of ministries have started implementing the electronic taxation system in all its formations, as part of the trend towards modern technological governance and comprehensive digital transformation.

And the Ministry of Industry and Minerals stated, in a statement, that “the electronic collection system has been activated in all public formations affiliated with the ministry through the implementation of the electronic payment mechanism (POS) in collecting money, especially fees for services provided by the General Directorate of Industrial Development and the Trademarks Department for industrialists and factory owners.” Companies and all cards approved by the Central Bank of Iraq (MasterCard and Visa).

She added, "This came in order to shift to electronic transactions, collect funds through modern electronic systems, facilitate procedures and provide the best services."

In this context, the Ministry of Commerce launched the electronic window project to register local and foreign companies.

Trade Minister Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairy said, in a speech during a ceremony on this occasion: "We celebrate the launch of this project, under the slogan (Together to improve the environment for business and investment performance in Iraq).

He added, "The Ministry of Commerce was keen to work according to the right direction, in implementation of what was stated in the government program in improving the environment for business and economic performance, simplifying government procedures and services to overcome work and bureaucratic obstacles, and opening new channels to open up to the business and economy world through proper planning and relentless pursuit to make Iraq a safe and attractive environment for investment." foreign companies to keep pace with development and build the country's economy.

He pointed out that "the Ministry of Commerce, and within its ministerial curriculum, is moving towards e-governance and a comprehensive digital transformation to work to improve institutional performance and support sustainable development to eliminate redundant administrative circles and upgrade the government services it provides to the highest levels and in various fields."

He pointed out that "the single electronic window project for registering local and foreign companies is one of the important and effective projects that seek to provide a business environment for the beneficiaries according to advanced mechanisms and international standards."

The step of getting rid of paper transactions in Iraqi state institutions has been delayed for more than ten years since the start of calls for governance and automation to eliminate wasted time in the lives of citizens and reduce extortion and corruption as well-known loopholes in state departments since 2003. However, experts believe that the delay in implementing the step does not mean the absence of need it.

On the subject, the economist Bassem Antoine considered the trend towards automation in state departments as "good", albeit late, to get rid of extortion, bribery, delays, obstacles, health issues, and others.

Antoine said, in a statement to the official newspaper, "Today we see the interest of the prime minister and officials in this regard," noting that "we, as economists, urge implementation under correct, accurate and scientific conditions."

And he called for "training and educating employees on automation to achieve the desired from this step, to avoid obtaining counterproductive results," noting that "automation must be generalized to all departments, so the matter needs time and educating the employee and the citizen with conducting training courses for the staff."

The economist expected that "the government will reap many advantages, including the speedy completion of transactions for the employee and the auditor, the reduction of the working staff, and the elimination of rampant corruption in the departments."

In turn, economist Hazem Hadi described automation as a good form and method of managing the state through which things are clear and quick to get things done, indicating that the government routine is boring and its mechanisms take a long time.

Hadi added, to the official newspaper, that "automation creates societal awareness, and opens a wide horizon in the use of technology, so it is an important first step in order to enter this field in order to achieve progress."
