Yesterday, Tuesday, political affairs researcher Saud Al-Mashhadani considered the Accountability and Justice Law a tool to “strike opponents.”
Al-Mashhadani said in an interview with Al-Mada, “The Accountability and Justice Law is considered one of the transitional laws, and the need for it has ceased.”
He added, "The dissolution of the Accountability and Justice Commission is considered part of the political agreement paper concluded before the formation of the government."
Al-Mashhadani continued, speaking via (Al-Mada), that “the work of the Accountability and Justice Commission has recently become merely a routine driven by political pressures towards some figures to attack opponents, and it is expected that it be dissolved and the Accountability and Justice Law be abolished.”
For his part, member of the Al-Hikma Movement, Hassan Fadaam, said earlier, “The first to be affected by the dissolution of the Accountability and Justice Commission is the Sunni component, as it opens the way for the emergence of Baathist figures to the forefront of the political scene,” adding that “Baathist figures will compete with the current prominent leaders.”
It is noteworthy that Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper revealed earlier the Iraqi government’s request to transfer the files and data of the Accountability and Justice Commission to the judiciary in preparation for ending its work.
She stated, “The political forces allied to form the current government obtained promises from Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, including the abolition of the Accountability and Justice Commission.”
Last week, the Council of Ministers excluded Nineveh Governor Najm al-Jubouri from the Accountability and Justice Law to participate in the elections.
Earlier, the Federal Court of Cassation ruled that the Governor of Nineveh, Najm al-Jubouri, is included in the Accountability and Justice Law and that he or his representatives are not permitted to run in the provincial council elections.
