The US Embassy in Kuwait announced, on Wednesday evening (October 25, 2023), a reduction in its activities at US military bases in the Gulf country neighboring Iraq, after threats by Iraqi armed factions against it.
The embassy said in its official account on the (X) platform, “We are aware of the threats made by the (True Promise) brigades in Iraq on social media sites to target American military bases in Kuwait.”
She indicated “reducing her activities at American military bases to being limited to basic and official activities.”
Yesterday, Tuesday, brigades called “The True Promise - Sons of the Arabian Peninsula” threatened the American bases in Kuwait and the Emirates and considered them legitimate targets.
She stated in a statement: “After the Zionist entity and its supporters persisted in exterminating our people in steadfast Palestine, and the killing, displacement and destruction we are witnessing today against the patient, struggling Palestinian people, we affirm that our patience has limits.”
She added: “We give good news to the honorable and zealous members of our nation that we consider the American bases in Kuwait and the Emirates as legitimate targets for us in response to the crimes of the Zionist entity and America and in retaliation for the martyrs of our beloved Palestine.”
It is noteworthy that US Army bases in Iraq and Syria have been targeted several times since the launch of Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7.
The announcement of the “Brigades of Truth” came after American-Iraqi discussions regarding the recent attacks on American and coalition forces in Iraq, where the US State Department said that Anthony Blinken discussed with Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani the recent attacks and called on Baghdad to guarantee their safety.
Major General Yahya Rasoul, spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, announced the day before yesterday, Monday, a government intention to track down elements that carried out attacks on military bases where foreign forces are present.
