Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Hayyan Abdul Ghani, delivered an important speech during his participation in the Energy Security Conference. Hayyan highlighted the main points focused on achieving energy security and its challenges in the country.
According to a statement from the ministry received by Mawazine News, Abdul Ghani stressed the importance of holding the conference to achieve energy security, noting that “this is a major challenge facing countries.” He also provided details on how to transition to energy and the necessity of balancing control of oil and gas production points.
Hayyan pointed to "the great efforts made by Iraq in supporting clean energy projects, chemical industries, and fertilizers, through investing in associated gas."
He pointed out that "Iraq signed a contract with Total to invest in gas in the amount of 600 million cubic feet from 5 fields, and two major projects to purify water and direct it for the purposes of reservoir injection and generating electrical energy using solar energy."
Confirming Iraq's commitment to the Paris Agreement, Hayyan pointed out "a 2% reduction in thermal emissions thanks to new projects."
He stressed "the necessity of including in the recommendations of environmental conferences decisions on sharing water from upstream countries to neighboring countries," stressing "the importance of continuing to issue water shares."
Hayyan stressed "Iraq's support for carbon bond projects in the Central Oil Company," calling for "participation in the competition for the fifth and sixth licensing rounds, which expects to invest 3 thousand million cubic meters of gas to support the electricity sector."
