    Economy News - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday, the economic expert, Bassam Raad, explained the advantages of Iraq’s transition to using solar energy, while confirming that Iraq has begun to take its first steps towards a green economy.
Raad said, in an exclusive interview with Al-Iqtisad News, that “looking at the current energy scene, we notice the presence of a diverse mix of renewable energy sources, and solar energy is witnessing remarkable growth in many parts of the world,” noting that “this growth is linked to multiple factors, the first of which is The economics of comparative advantage.
He added, "Iraq is one of the countries that has a comparative advantage in the field of solar energy generation, as the country has the longest average hours of sunshine during the year."
The economic expert explained, “The trend towards decreasing solar energy, as its cost enhances national energy security and diversifies its sources by creating a diverse and flexible mix and supports the national economy and the general budget by reducing imports of electric energy and natural gas from abroad and contributing to reducing carbon emissions, especially since the climate change crisis and its repercussions.” Negativity has become an undeniable reality for the country.”
Raad stated, "The shift to generating electrical energy through replacing solar energy is consistent with the goals of environmental sustainability and mitigating the effects of climate change. However, the opportunities for replacing solar energy in electricity production processes are largely related to the government's financial ability to cover the costs of the replacement process."
He pointed out, "A group of initiatives to support opportunities to use solar energy methods were launched recently, most notably the integrated energy project with the French company Total Energies, as the fourth contract project is a good addition to the renewable energy sector through investing in solar energy with a capacity of (1000) megawatts."
He continued, "Iraq has begun to take its first steps towards a green economy. The trend towards solar energy contributes to providing a sustainable supply of electrical energy and reducing environmental pollution."
