    Today, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, as part of his official visit to the Republic of Cyprus, the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Gamal Rashid, visited the headquarters of the Cypriot Parliament, where he was received by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Anita Demetriou.
    During the meeting, developments in the political situation and international issues of common concern were discussed, as the President of the Republic indicated the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation at the parliamentary level and exchange legal and legislative expertise between the Iraqi and Cypriot parliaments, explaining the importance of forming the Iraqi-Cypriot Friendship Committee and activating communication between the two parties in a way that develops parliamentary and legislative work. .
    The President of the Republic spoke about the meeting he had with his Cypriot counterpart and the subsequent expanded meeting of the two government delegations and its positive outcome, considering it to be the basic foundation of strong bilateral relations capable of realizing the hopes of the two friendly peoples for progress and prosperity.
    The President of the Republic indicated that Iraq is experiencing a distinguished period of stability at the security, political and economic levels, and at the same time welcomes the contributions of Cypriot companies in the investment and reconstruction sectors, indicating the importance of activating air transport between Iraq and Cyprus to consolidate communication mechanisms.
    The necessity of adopting cultural diplomacy between Iraq and Cyprus was also stressed, which paves the way for cooperation in the field of antiquities, their preservation, and the protection of the civilizational and cultural heritage of the two countries.
    The President of the Republic explained his vision for the future of the region and the positive results that strengthening security and stability there will have on the nature of relations between countries and the aspirations of their peoples for a safe and stable life, and supporting the entitlement of the Palestinian people to obtain all their legitimate rights and their right to self-determination.
    In turn, Demetriou expressed her happiness at meeting the President of the Republic, stressing her country's keenness to expand the horizons of cooperation with Iraq in various fields in a way that achieves common interests.
