Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous discussed this matter with Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Aoun Dhiab Abdullah, and the two sides stressed the need for all parties to respect international agreements related to the construction of dams and the sharing of international river waters between upstream and downstream countries.

For his part, Arnous stressed the readiness of the Syrian government to implement joint projects with the Iraqi side in the field of water and to use modern technologies to address the reality of scarcity of water resources as a result of several reasons, including drought and lack of rainfall during the past years.

In turn, the Iraqi minister expressed his country's readiness to exchange experiences and information with the Syrian side and to enhance bilateral cooperation in this context in a way that achieves the common interest of the two countries and the two brotherly peoples.

In a statement to the Syrian newspaper "Al-Watan", the Charge d'Affairs of the Iraqi Embassy in Damascus, Yassin Sharif Al-Hujaimi, confirmed that the water shares that connect via the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, passing through Syrian territory towards Iraq, were addressed.

Arnous reassured the Iraqi side that despite the lack of water sent from the upstream country - Turkey, which has reached half the prescribed share and currently reaches less than 300 cubic meters per second, knowing that the share of Syria and Iraq is scheduled to reach 500 cubic meters per second, Syria will not They spare no effort to provide it to Iraq in light of the shortage of water being sent in light of water scarcity and lack of rainfall.
