Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, stressed that the sound of machines in factories should be the loudest, and not to stand before the sound of the shakers.
The Prime Minister's Media Office stated, in a statement received by "Al-Sabah", that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sawani opened the rolling mill, one of the factories of the General Iron and Steel Company in Basra, which he arrived at yesterday morning, Saturday, to follow up and open a number of strategic industrial and service projects."
According to the statement, Al-Sudani praised “the efforts that led to the operation and rehabilitation of these factories,” considering them “an important milestone in the ‘Year of Achievements’ adopted by the government, in addition to the DAP fertilizer and urea factories that opened later yesterday.”
The Prime Minister said, during the opening ceremony of the rolling mill factory: “Completing and rehabilitating these factories, after years of delay, disruption and problems, is an important step that has overcome all these reasons and was able to overcome the challenges,” adding, “Today we open the rolling mill factory, and after a short time we will open the factory.” Steel, to complete the cycle of iron production and manufacturing with all choices and types.”
He pointed out that "these factories were implemented according to the latest production lines from international origins, and represent an important opportunity to cover the needs of the local market," stressing that "the operation of this factory will enable Iraq to reduce the import of iron, preserve foreign currency and provide a national product and new job opportunities." .
He stressed that "the rehabilitation of these factories represents part of the government's vision and program within the economic reform," and continued that "Basra has entered the gateway to economic advancement, which is reflected in all of Iraq," stressing that "the completion of Al-Faw port, the initiation of the development road project and the economic city, and the revival of factories, are all "It requires the combined efforts of those concerned in the federal and local governments."
Al-Sudani added, "We emphasize the reform aspect we are adopting related to the automation of customs, to ensure revenues for the state, regulate the entry of imports in accordance with the law and regulations, regulate trade, and block the way for manipulators and exploiters."
He explained that “the Ministry of Finance is continuing to automate customs and the ASYCUDA system, in cooperation with United Nations agencies,” stressing by saying: “The automation program is subject to our personal follow-up and supervision, and we will address any observation that arises, and the program will continue.” He concluded by saying: “This voice must continue, and it must be The sound of machines is the loudest sound, and we will not stand before the sound of the shakers, with your determination and determination.”
The rolling mill is one of the factories of the General Iron and Steel Company, which has been closed since 2003. The factory, along with the steel factory and the engineering services attached to them, primarily feeds the local consumption need for rebar, with a production capacity of up to 500 thousand tons annually.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani also opened the urea fertilizer factory and the DAP fertilizer factory, which belong to the General Company for the Southern Fertilizer Industry / Ministry of Industry and Minerals, during his visit to Basra Governorate, and he conducted a tour of the manufacturers’ departments, and was briefed on the work and operating mechanisms.
It is noteworthy that the two factories have been out of work for years, and were reopened after contracting with two foreign companies. The capacity of the urea factory is (1,000) tons per day, while the capacity of the dab factory is (500) thousand tons per year.

Al-Sudani pointed out, according to a statement from his office, the importance of Basra and the advantages it enjoys at all levels, indicating that the advancement of Basra’s situation does not fall solely on the responsibility of the local government, but rather is a federal matter, because the development and prosperity of Basra is important for all Iraqis. He stressed that understanding and cooperation as one team, It is an introduction to the success of local governments, stressing the importance of cooperation between ministries and governorates.
The Prime Minister pointed out the importance of moving to the most important step represented by the economic renaissance of Basra, noting the Al-Faw port projects and the development road that have received regional and international attention. He also pointed to the (Basra-Shalamcheh) line for transporting passengers and the importance it poses to the governorate, which requires that all plans and programs be The work is commensurate with the importance that Basra has today.
