He said Pentagon spokesman Admiral John Kirby said Hagel and Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obeidi spoke for about 20 minutes in the first phone call between them since the ratification of the appointment of al-Obeidi in his position. He added that the minister was very clear, in more than one occasion in the call said that he has every intention to attack Daash and make sure that the Iraqi security forces have the appropriate resources and training and are equipped to do so. He said al-Obeidi, Kirby focused particularly on he has every intention to make sure that the Iraqi security forces representing the interests of all Iraqis, and he wants an army of all shades that represent the population of Iraq, an army to defend every inch of Iraq. The Iraqi parliament approved on Saturday the appointment of al-Obeidi as defense minister, a Sunni from the northern city of Mosul, which is now occupied by the organization "Daash."
And the formation of a predominantly Shiite Iraqi government, headed by Haidar al-Abadi, who has promised to work to heal the sectarian divisions in Iraq and unify the country against "Daash."

Kirby explained that al-Obeidi and Hagel did not discuss operational details concerning the training and resources you'll need the Iraqi security forces to launch a major attack on the "Daash", and instead discussed the priorities of al-Obeidi as defense minister.

He said al-Obeidi was very clear about his desire to defeat "Daash" and make sure that the Iraqi army has the appropriate resources and training to continue the defense of his country and its citizens.

Abizaid said al-Obeidi spoke about the need to reform the Iraqi army, which officials say that former Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki moderated a bad way and failed to provide training him and not some promising leaders and others close to him has increased sectarian divisions.
