Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadhil, confirmed that the Iraqi-Turkish electricity interconnection line represents a qualitative leap in the field of strengthening the national electricity grid and linking it with the international grid via Turkey and the European Union.
The minister explained in a statement to the official agency, "Turkey will supply Iraq with 300 megawatts during the summer, while Iraq will supply Turkey with 150 megawatts during the rest of the year from its surplus energy."
He pointed out that "within one year, we have achieved two accomplishments in the electricity interconnection sector with neighboring countries, the first being the Jordan line and now the interconnection line with Turkey."
He added that "Rutba district has abandoned private generators and now enjoys stable electricity after the Iraqi-Jordanian electricity connection." He also pointed out that "we are anticipating the completion of the electricity connection between Iraq and Kuwait by the end of this year, and then the connection with Saudi Arabia within the Gulf electricity connection agreement."
