Baghdad/Al-Masala: Former MP Ahmed Al-Kanani said that the issue of the withdrawal of foreign forces from Iraq has taken another turn, pointing out that there is procrastination and delay by the American forces with the aim of remaining inside the country. Al-Kanani added that the American side is currently counting on terrorist organizations and Turkish forces to justify its continuation.
Al-Kanani explained that the United States is using multiple pressures on Iraq, most notably the economic pressures represented by the US Federal Reserve’s control over the dollar, which constitutes a major obstacle to the Iraqi economy. In addition, security pressures are used as a justification for the continued US military presence.
Al-Kanani pointed out that there is a Turkish-American agreement regarding military operations in the northern provinces of Iraq, which contributes to reviving the idea of the presence of these forces inside the country. He added that Iraq must use the sources of power it possesses to pressure the American side to end this military presence.
On the other hand, analyses indicated that the release of ISIS elements from Syrian prisons is a pressure card used by the United States to prolong its presence in Iraq.
The process, which began with the release of 1,200 of the organization's most prominent leaders, will continue in batches until 15,000 members are released.
The infiltration of large numbers of ISIS elements into western Iraq poses a major security threat, paving the way for US forces to remain in the country. These security tensions are used as a pretext to strengthen the US argument for maintaining its military presence, under the pretext of fighting terrorism and ensuring stability in the region.
The current phase is characterized by political, security and economic complexities that make it difficult for Iraq to take decisive steps towards ending the foreign military presence. The optimal solution remains to enhance its own capabilities and use all possible pressure tools to achieve full sovereignty and limit foreign interference.
