Kurdish politician Hakim Abdul Karim predicted, on Sunday (August 4, 2024), that the conflict and political differences would expand as the election date in the region approaches .
Abdul Karim said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The political conflict will be at its most intense, as even illegal methods that violate political ethics will be used in the election campaign."
He added, "All parties, whether ruling or even in the opposition, are aware of the extent of popular discontent with politicians and the current situation in the region."
He pointed out that "the Iraqi Electoral Commission is required to take strict measures and impose severe penalties on those who violate election propaganda laws and use illegal methods."
The Kurdistan Region is preparing to hold the sixth elections to form the Kurdistan Region Parliament, which have been delayed for 3 years, next October, while these elections will be governed by many political factors and variables that the Kurdistan Region has witnessed since the last elections held in 2018.
