Shafaq News/ A member of the Kirkuk Provincial Council from the Arab bloc said on Saturday that there is no agreement or nomination of a specific candidate for the position of governor so far.
Raad Saleh confirmed to Shafaq News Agency that the Arabs are committed to the position of governor as an electoral entitlement, and that there is no settlement between the winning blocs in the provincial council so far.
Saleh pointed out that "there is no agreement between the Arabs and other blocs regarding the position, and the dialogue is still ongoing without reaching a specific name."
He added that "speculations about holding a provincial council session tomorrow, Sunday, are incorrect, as there are no plans to hold a meeting on that day."
Some media outlets circulated news about a political agreement to nominate the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc, Rebwar Taha, for the position of governor, after reaching an agreement with the winning blocs in the provincial council.
It is noteworthy that tomorrow, Sunday, marks the end of the deadline set by the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, to share power among the components of Kirkuk.
The first session of the Council was held on July 11 and remained open, as the Kurdistan National Union bloc and the Babylon bloc sought to hold a session last week to pass the formation of the local government, but a request to postpone the session was submitted after the intervention of the Prime Minister and the leaders of the political blocs, to give the other components a chance to complete their work and participate in the session.
