    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
MP Haider Al-Salami identified, today, Sunday (August 18, 2024), the direct reason for the delay in deciding the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Al-Salami said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The policy of changing positions has created a state of difficulty in predicting what is happening in the Iraqi scene, whether in politics or otherwise," noting that "the abundance of decisions, their diversity, and the insistence of the leaderships that are trying to make the decision exclusively for them and not under the dome of the House of Representatives are what are delaying the decision on the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives at the present time."
He added, "If the matter had been left to the members of the House of Representatives, the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives would have been decided in the first round," adding, "But the many political interventions are what have delayed deciding the position for months."
He pointed out that "until now there are no clear paths to decide the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives in light of the interventions and attempts to impose a personality that satisfies the political leadership and not the members of the House of Representatives," stressing that "leaving the matter to the national space is the best solution to get out of this problem."
The Fatah Alliance revealed yesterday, Saturday (August 17, 2024), the date for deciding on the election of the new Speaker of Parliament, while indicating that the closest way to resolve this issue is to give the representative the freedom to choose.
The coalition's representative, Mukhtar al-Moussawi, said in an interview with "Baghdad Today" that "the forces of the Coordination Framework are determined to decide on the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives after the end of the Arbaeen visit, and the issue cannot be postponed any longer, and the remaining period is sufficient for the Sunni forces to agree among themselves."
Al-Moussawi said, "The closest way to deciding the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is to leave the freedom of choice to the representatives, and they are the ones who decide who the new president will be. The differences are ongoing, and there is difficulty in reaching any agreements, and any solutions proposed meet with political objections."
Despite the numerous legal and constitutional violations, and the fraud scandal announced by the Iraqi judiciary, the dismissed Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, according to observers, is still using his influence to obstruct the selection of a new Speaker of Parliament after three sessions were held without passing the alternative.
All political and popular circles are waiting for the vote on the new Speaker of Parliament to end the Halbousi era and the functioning of the Parliament, in order to complete the basic oversight and legislative role of the Council.
