Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, confirmed today, Sunday, that Iraq stands in solidarity with Palestine in various aspects, but this solidarity has not reached the point of raising arms. While he confirmed that the American presence in Iraq is not an occupation, he indicated that the government is moving in two directions to prevent escalation.

Hussein said in a special interview presented by colleague Hussam Al-Hajj on Al-Sumaria TV, that "the government has nothing to do with the behavior of a person working in the Prime Minister's Office," expressing his "satisfaction with the government's work, despite the failure to implement everything stated in the political agreement paper."

He added, "The democratic system rejects surveillance and we fought Saddam's regime for the sake of freedom," adding, "We are still waiting for judicial investigations into the issue of recording calls."

Regarding the Kirkuk file, the Foreign Minister said, "Kirkuk needs consensus and will not proceed with patchwork solutions," noting that "the judiciary is the one that decides the legality of the Kirkuk government election session."

Regarding the Iranian response and the Gaza war, Hussein confirmed that "the American side is serious about reaching solutions in the Gaza war," indicating that "expectations indicate that Iran will respond to the killing of Haniyeh."

He continued: "We are working exceptionally hard to keep Iraq away from the specter of war," noting that "the Iraqi government is moving in two directions, externally and internally, to stop the escalation," indicating that "internal escalation is through dialogue with the factions, and externally through spreading calm."

He pointed out that "the issue of war and peace is in the hands of the government and parliament, as stipulated in the constitution," stressing that "the government does not believe in the unity of the arenas and is preoccupied with the Iraqi arena."

Hussein said: "The borders of solidarity with Palestine are open, but it will not reach the point of raising weapons. We are still suffering from the repercussions of the war, and the Palestinians will not accept our destruction." He considered "solidarity with the Palestinian people a foundation of Iraqi policy."

Regarding the British Ambassador's position, the Foreign Minister considered "the British Ambassador's statement regarding the security situation inappropriate," noting that "the British Ambassador's statement sends bad messages that may push Christians to emigrate."

He added: "We are not on an isolated island and we need the West to learn democracy," stressing: "The American ambassador has the right to express her opinion based on the universality of human rights, and her tweet regarding the personal status law did not cross the line."

He added, "The US ambassador's meetings with Iraqi ministers do not violate diplomatic norms," explaining that "America influences Iraqi politics in a way that differs from other countries."

The Foreign Minister stressed: "There is no American occupation of Iraq and many concepts need to be discussed," adding: "We begged the Americans to come to Iraq after the emergence of ISIS, and some attack them from an ideological, doctrinal or partisan standpoint."

He reiterated: "The negotiations for the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq are ongoing, and the Iraqi government has officially requested the withdrawal of American forces."

Regarding the Turkish file, Hussein referred to "the existence of fixed foundations that we will not violate in the relationship with the Turkish side," stressing that "the Iraqi National Security Council declared the Kurdistan Workers' Party a banned party."

He added, "There is no clear internal position towards the Kurdistan Workers' Party or American intervention," continuing, "Internal politics prevented me from proceeding with a complaint I filed against Turkey."

The Foreign Minister warned of "a crisis that could hit the country if oil prices continue to decline."
