    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Political researcher Mujasha' Al-Tamimi described, on Sunday (September 8, 2024), the American press reports regarding ending the international coalition's missions in Iraq as a "maneuver."
Al-Tamimi told Baghdad Today, "The recent Reuters report on the US withdrawal from Iraq is a new US maneuver, and this report is to pass this difficult stage and give a dose of reassurance to the armed factions calling for the withdrawal of US forces."
He added, "Information indicates that it will complete its withdrawal in 2026, which is a long time and may be linked to the new US administration of President Donald Trump if he wins the elections, who is known for his political fluctuations and lack of commitment to agreements, so the issue is still in its early stages and needs time."
And the day before yesterday, Friday (September 6, 2024), Reuters news agency said that the United States and Iraq agreed on a plan for the withdrawal of international coalition forces from the country.
Reuters indicated that "the understanding between America and Iraq will witness the departure of hundreds of soldiers by September 2025, and the departure of all forces in 2026."
Last August, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the postponement of the announcement of the end of the international coalition's military mission in Iraq due to recent developments and the bombing of the Ain al-Assad base west of Anbar, where American forces are present, last month.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that "there are no American forces in Iraq except for military advisors under the umbrella of the international coalition, and these advisors are included in the outcomes of the work of the Supreme Military Committee, and both parties are committed to the mechanisms followed and their outcomes."
She stressed that "the presence of international coalition advisers of all nationalities on Iraqi soil will be terminated, and the discussions included details that included the order of withdrawal of advisers from the sites, and all that remains is to agree on the details and date of the announcement and some other logistical aspects," noting that the two sides "were very close to announcing this agreement, but due to recent developments, the announcement of the end of the military mission of the international coalition in Iraq was postponed."
