A source in the Iranian presidency reveals to “Al-Sabah” the agenda of Pezeshkian’s visit to Iraq

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to begin an official visit to Iraq tomorrow, Wednesday, which is his first foreign visit after assuming his duties as President of the Islamic Republic.
Pezeshkian's visit comes upon an official invitation from President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, conveyed by Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein to his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi. A
high-ranking source in the Iranian presidency told Al-Sabah: "The visit reflects the desire of the new Iranian government to strengthen bilateral relations and activate the understandings reached between Iran and Iraq, in addition to signing a number of memoranda of understanding and agreements between the two countries in the security and economic fields."
The source explained that "Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian decided to make the visit despite the crowding of his program, which includes a visit to the United States of America to participate in the meetings of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, and this reflects the interest of the new Iranian government in relations with Iraq in various fields."
The Iranian presidential source referred to "the economic and trade relations between the two countries, as the volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached 10 billion dollars annually, and the two countries aspire to increase this level to 20 billion dollars."
He explained that "regional and international issues will be on the table of discussions that President Pezeshkian will hold with President Abdul Latif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, especially those related to the continued Zionist aggression on the Gaza Strip and efforts aimed at a ceasefire, in addition to Iranian-Arab relations, as Iraq played a role in normalizing relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by hosting the initial talks between Tehran and Riyadh, which led to the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries."
