The Ministry of Health announced new measures regarding mental health, indicating that tangible progress has been achieved in this area.
Abdul Nasser Mahmoud, a member of the National Advisory Office for Mental Health in the Ministry, said in an interview with the official media that “the mental health file in Iraq is witnessing a state of continuous development,” noting that “the challenges are represented by drugs and psychotropic substances, and their position is similar to all mental and psychological substances and social problems.”
He added that "mental health in Iraq has achieved great cooperation through awareness, allocating hospitals and providing services," explaining that "mental illnesses exist in all their types as they do in any other society, and the reasons for their spread are multiple."
He stated that “among the reasons are genetic or hereditary predisposition, in addition to the acquired social conditions that a person lives in.”
He pointed out that "the ministry is working to provide specialized cadres for mental health and expand capabilities," indicating that "there is ongoing cooperation with all parties in the field of mental health."
