    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Today, Monday (September 23, 2024), the Minister of Housing and Construction, Benkin Rikani, responded to the dismissed Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, regarding his statements about the amounts of service projects in Baghdad.
"He lived with loyalty, fought with honor, and fought with chivalry. The number of projects to relieve congestion in the city of Baghdad is 18, including 6 tunnels, 41 bridges, and 5 bridges crossing the Tigris River, with a total contract value of (1,866,871,815,600) trillion, eight hundred and sixty-six billion, eight hundred and seventy-one million, eight hundred and fifteen thousand, six hundred dinars," Rikani said in a clarification, followed by "Baghdad Today."
He added, "The actual expenditure on these projects is (786,023,188,967) seven hundred and eighty-six billion, twenty-three million, one hundred and eighty-eight thousand, nine hundred and sixty-seven dinars."
The Minister continued, "The Ministry's project contracts for the years (2023-2024) in the governorates amounted to (2,844,858,911,000) two trillion, eight hundred and forty-four billion, eight hundred and fifty-eight million, nine hundred and eleven thousand dinars," indicating that "the actual expenditure amounted to (721,200,000,000) seven hundred and twenty-one billion and two hundred million dinars."
He explained that "there are infrastructure projects for the ministry in all governorates under implementation in our ministry and the ministries of finance and planning, with a value exceeding three and a half trillion dinars, a large part of which will be transferred this year."
He stressed that "therefore, the amounts allocated for the governorates' projects are approximately four times more than the amounts allocated for the traffic congestion relief projects in Baghdad, which were a truly urgent need and our ministry was honored to implement," noting that "this is only in our ministry, and I call on the other ministries and the Ministry of Planning to provide the numbers to the other ministries."
The article by Mohammed al-Halbousi claimed that the amounts allocated to resolve traffic congestion in Baghdad exceeded several times the funds allocated for projects in the provinces.
