    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
An informed source revealed, today, Wednesday (October 16, 2024), the unannounced arrival of an American delegation to the capital, Baghdad, at dawn today.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "An American delegation arrived in Baghdad at dawn today, in an unannounced manner, in an effort to prepare a draft for indirect negotiations with Tehran."
He added, "America is exerting strong pressure through Iraqi mediators to conduct negotiations with Iran regarding the future of the region. It wants to adopt the principle of a single basket in resolving all issues, unlike Tehran, which believes that each issue is separate and has its own solutions, unlike the rest of the issues."
The source pointed out that "all indications show that America is actually afraid of engaging in a comprehensive war with Tehran because it could lead to serious consequences with the approach of the election season, in addition to the fact that its allies in the region do not support any escalatory steps due to the risks that could extend to them, especially with regard to oil and gas facilities."
The source expected that "the results of the American delegation may determine the direction of several regional files, but in general, Baghdad plays important roles in reducing tension as much as possible and seeking to crystallize indirect negotiations as a start to limiting the risks of a comprehensive war breaking out in the region."
An informed source revealed on Saturday (October 12, 2024) that there was unannounced movement for indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The source said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Washington is very concerned about the acceleration of events in the Middle East and the direct clash between Tehran and Tel Aviv and the latter's pursuit of a military response targeting Iranian sites in response to the missile attack that targeted its bases weeks ago."
He added, "Washington is pushing towards creating an undeclared movement in coordination with Baghdad to hold indirect negotiations with Tehran in order to arrange matters and agree on specific paths that defuse any conflicts that lead the region into great chaos."
The source pointed out that "all Gulf countries support Washington's option to conduct direct or indirect negotiations with Tehran to avoid the conflict getting out of control," stressing that "according to the indicators, Gulf capitals are pressuring America to prevent Israel from targeting Iranian oil or gas facilities, nuclear stations, or any targets that would lead to a comprehensive war in the region that could have serious repercussions that threaten its oil fields and energy sources in general."
He added, "Baghdad has actually begun to arrange the atmosphere and seek to crystallize priority understandings that may be the beginning of upcoming meetings, especially since all parties are open to the negotiations file, even if they are indirect."
